With optical sensors, information about the position of a measurement point is transmitted by light from the object to the sensor. The benefits for the application lie in non-contact measurement. This makes it possible to measure sensitive workpieces as well as those with small features. With optical sensors, many measurement points are captured very quickly or even simultaneously. Compared to other sensors, their use therefore usually leads to much shorter measuring times.
