Tooth form cutters are characterized by large diameters and a large number of cutting edges – often greater than 10 –. The most important geometrical characteristics are diameter, axial circular run-out radial and the profile of the cutting edge. Tolerances of 2 µm to 20 µm lead to high to very high requirements for measurement uncertainty. While measurement time is considered, it is of secondary importance.
