Contrast evaluation for the measurement of geometrical characteristics

Benefits

By moving the lenses in the orientation of the optical axis, the sharpness (contrast) of the image is continuously evaluated for a section of the image. The contrast is at its maximum where the object plane coincides with the focal plane. The sensors are then positioned accordingly at this calculated position. The accuracy of the process is primarily dependent on the depth of field of the lenses.

Many three-dimensional measurement tasks can be solved by combining the non-contact measurement methods of image processing and autofocus sensors

The image processing sensor hardware (a) camera, b) imaging optics, c) measuring object and d) transmitted light illumination) is used to capture images in different positions on the optical axis. The position of the workpiece surface is determined on the basis of the contrast curve.
